Don't Forget The Sunscreen!

With Summer quickly approaching we are all anxious to spend as much time as possible outside. Whether we're at the beach, the baseball park, at the local pool, or just simply doing yard work we must ALWAYS remember to use sunscreen!

It's a simple task, just apply 15 minutes before going outside then your ready to enjoy the day. It may seem like something of no concern, but skin cancer is NOT to be taken lightly. I have had 3 moles removed that were not precancerous, but the dermatologist felt "could possibly turn into something serious in the future". Well enough said, I had them surgically removed and let me tell you it's no picnic.

I thought it would be no big deal, they were small moles nothing to worry about. When they take them out they remove a lot of tissue, not just the area that is the mole. Depending on the location of the body the doctor goes through several layers of tissue to remove the entire "core" area. Sort of like having a wart removed. They also go out a couple of inches around the diameter of the mole. Needless to say I have some lovely scars. But a scar is far better than cancer.

So please use sunscreen as much as possible. It doesn't even have to be that sunny to get burned. The higher the SPF the better. I've been using a 50 SPF lately and believe it or not I still get a nice tan, just without that horrible sunburn.

Have a great summer and protect that skin!
